Skamigos Interview Here's
my interview with Dean from the Skamigos, god knows what
happened to them, they kinda fell of the face of the
earth. All well it amusing anyway. The Skamigos Interview By Erika Sogge When we first started e-mailing bands, I e-mailed The Skamigos. But I just never got around to giving them an interview. So a day after we distributed the first issue I e-mailed Dean and gave him an interview. I also e-mailed a lot of other bands but none of them responded for some strange reason. But as soon as he answered the questions I was very glad that I didn't have another band do it, theirs was so great, see for yourself The Skamigos consist of: Dean 17yrs. trumpet, vocals Brendon 17yrs. tenor&alto sax Niel 17yrs. trombone Jeff 19yrs guitar Matt 18yrs. lead guitar Dave 17yrs. lead vocals Eric 17yrs. bass Drew 13yrs. drums How did you get the name The Skamigos and what other names did you consider? Ok well, I wasn't in the band when they chose this name, but they said they did it because we would always make fun of bands that had ska in their name cuz it sounded generic and really dumb. So we did it as a joke , and a few people liked it so we made a cool logo, so it stayed Now it is just too late to change it, as much as we want to. As far as other names considered: Probably every word you could fit into ska that sounded really gay, all the names were jokes, we never thought we would play shows! How long have you been together? Umm, tough question probably since late September. We really didn't get serious until December though. We played our first show in Mass. December 19th with Thumper. Who are some of your major influences? Big D and The Kids Table, Thumper, Spicy Gribblets, Weezer, NOFX, Charlie Parker, Chet Baker, Spring Heeled Jack, mostly every kick a** ska, punk, or jazz band. Where's your favorite place to play? We all like different places, but as a band we all agree on either The Municipal Café cuz it's big and the sound rules or the Crossroads in Simsbury cuz the crowd kicks a**! What local bands do you like? INFAMOUS GNOMOSEXUALS!!!!! Why do you like them? Because they are soo talented and every song of theirs is soo good. We also like Sgt. Scagnetti because so different from all the other bands out there. Why are you in a band? I would say money, but we don't really make a lot, or I could say women, but we hardly get any. Actually the reason we're all in a band is for fun, we like ska, and we like to play so why not be part of a ska band. What's your favorite website? Well, I love our website, Matt did a kick ash job, but my favorite website is probably every free internet porn site, I think I speak for the rest of the band with that one too. Other good sites are: http://members.aol.com/Potratz5/gallery.html "Saved By The Bell" picture gallery http://sys12.cs.jmu.edu/wwwhomes/goldhr/toohep/regindex.html Too Hep productions http://www.pwrtc.com/~tacoboy/urkelatemyballs.html Steve Urkel ate my big, beautiful, hairy, ball Does everyone get along well? Yeah, we're all very good friends, we rarely fight, but if we do it's because we just get sick of each other. You guys have awesome, fun songs, how do you come up with them? We have some fun songs, usually we have stupid topics cuz it's funny and we make simple choruses and easy words so people can sing along. Even If you don't know the song at the beginning of the show, it's easy enough to learn while we are playing it. Down with Dan is pretty much a sing along that most of the crowd knows. What's your favorite type of music? Probably every swing song, because it's fun to dance to and it has horns, and it's just a happy type of music overall! (Makes me feel all warm inside) When did you first want to be in a band? Like two years ago, a freshman in high school I got into ska and punk, and it seemed like fun How do you like the local ska/punk scene? I like it. There are some really good bands out there. Some don't get as much credit as they deserve, but there is a lot of talent in Connecticut. What three adjectives would you use to describe your music? Three adjectives to describe the sweet sounds of the Skamigos: Energetic, evil (sometimes), fast |
